Human Givens

Human Givens works with the insight that all humans are born with a set of fundamental emotional needs, such as the need for security, control over our lives, meaning and purpose. We also have a range of mental resources such as our instincts, memory and a lively imagination which can help us to get our needs met. These needs and resources are the ‘Human Givens’. Emotional issues arise when, for various reasons, our needs are not being met in balance.

During a session I will listen and respond flexibly and intuitively to the issues you are facing. I'll then help you to access and strengthen your internal resources, and bring about the changes needed to overcome your issues. This may involve techniques such as CBT, self-compassion, simple breathwork and guided visualisation.

I also use hypnotherapy to work with any unhelpful patterns of thought and behaviour that operate beneath the conscious mind. A traumatic experience can be safely processed, an anxious inner child can be reassured and powerful shifts in self-belief can be embedded, bringing to life new possibilities.

Female, 20s

Testimonials

Jane really helped me to change my perspective and outlook on a few things in a relatively short space of time, as well as helping me learn some techniques to process past trauma and navigate difficult events that may happen in the future. I felt completely relaxed in the sessions and was also pleasantly surprised at how well these sessions worked on Zoom

Female, 30s

Testimonials

I spent 8 weeks working with Jane. What made this therapy different was that I arrived with strong emotional turmoil and rather than finding ways to address it in the present, we worked backwards to where it may have started. It was quite a vulnerable journey, but it never felt unsafe. Jane’s approach, with structure and kindness is honestly the best therapy experience I could have asked for and I cannot thank her enough for what we have achieved together

Female, 40s

Testimonials

I am definitely spending less time thinking about past events and found the description of using the rewind as a way of properly filing experiences away really helpful... thank you for all your help this year: I’m grateful we were put in touch.
